Limelight IPL™ Photofacial Treatment
Photofacials are one of the original “laser” services used by women and men worldwide. A photofacial is a special treatment that uses a spectrum of light to treat multiple shades of browns and reds. Our specialty Limelight Photofacial treatment is a tunable laser, which allows Drs. Burt and Will to adjust the strength of the treatment based on the severity of the age spots, red spots, veins and sun spots. This treatment is ideal for any part on your face, neck, décolletage, hands and even arms. Typically patients include those who notice pigment after childbearing, sun exposure, red cheeks/neck or age brown spots are great candidates.
Limelight technology also allows us to titrate the type of treatment based on whether your skin shows more browns or reds. This enables our team to provide the most personalized and customized treatment each time, and in turn leads to the best result with the least amount of downtime.
We have named our laser center Limelight Medspa to showcase this wonderful treatment. We believe in its versatility, safety and effectiveness. It is the most powerful laser and is effective for Caucasian, Hispanics, Asians, those of Mediterranean descent and light-skinned Black patients. Drs. Burt and Will are specialists in ethnic skin rejuvenation, and have purposely researched and brought versatile lasers into their surgical practice and laser center.
During a photofacial treatment, Dr. Burt or Dr. Will will pass the handpiece over the treatment area. It delivers pulses of light, which heat the pigmented areas to cause a therapeutic effect. Each wave of pulsed light lasts only a few seconds, and may feel like a mild pinching (similar to a rubber band lightly snapping your skin), but this is not painful. Our team can apply a topical anesthetic to numb the area and keep you from feeling any discomfort.
Treatment takes about 30 minutes. We may recommend a series of treatments to fully achieve your cosmetic goals.
Results of Photofacials
After a photofacial, brown spots and areas of discoloration start to darken; within one to three weeks, they flake off and fade, leaving you with a bright, uniform complexion. Photofacials also stimulate your body’s natural production of collagen, which improves the youthful quality of your skin.
You should start to see results within two to three weeks of treatment, with full results appearing after about a month. Your skin may look so beautiful that you can wear less makeup — or get rid of it altogether!
Please note: it is critical to protect your skin from the sun after photofacial treatment to prevent irregular pigmentation. We can provide suggestions, and please ask our team if you have any questions.
