As we get older, our body slows down its production of collagen, a crucial protein in our skin that gives it elasticity and firmness. Collagen is what keeps our skin tight and youthful, and it’s what supports the structure of our skin, allowing it to hold firm and strong instead of buckling into wrinkles and deep creases.
Sculptra, one of the most innovative injectables in the industry, is making a name for itself as an injectable that specifically restores the collagen in our skin. Using its advanced formula, Sculptra reaches into the deep layers of our skin to regrow and rebuild our collagen stores. By addressing the deeper layers of skin, Sculptra can revitalize the outer layers of the skin and restore its youthful volume, fullness, and glow. Research shows 1% of collagen per year after age 20 is lost in the body. Sculptra may be the right product to help restore lost collagen while improving the look of wrinkles and folds.
Sculptra’s formula is poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a chemical that helps stimulate the production of collagen. As the PLLA is naturally and safely absorbed by the body, it targets the strands of collagen in our skin and stimulates an increase in production.
Sculptra’s results are gradual and completely natural; rather than merely filling in missing volume like a typical injectable (such as Restylane or Juvederm), Sculptra will strengthen and rebuild your skin from the inside out. Over time, your skin will lift and firm itself for a subtle, naturally youthful look. Even as an injectable, Sculptra has outstanding results that rival more involved procedures like facial fat transfer, with results lasting for at least two years at a time. Most injectables will last 12-18 months, whereas Sculptra has proven to still show improvements and patient satisfaction even at 24 months!
The Sculptra Procedure
The Sculptra injection session is an in-office treatment that usually takes 20-30 minutes. Drs. Burt & Will, highly specialized injectors, administer the treatment, placing each injection carefully for maximum effectiveness. They use topical numbing prior to injection to help with any discomfort and the product is pre-mixed with numbing medication as well. Most patients require 2-3 sessions spaced out 6-8 weeks apart to achieve the ideal results. The number of treatments are best determined during the consultation process.
Recovering from Sculptra
Since Sculptra is a nonsurgical injectable, there’s no downtime or recovery required. It is recommended that patients massage their face for five days at the different injections sites to minimize swelling and keep the product looking smooth which will be taught to each patient after the treatment. Some patients experience some residual swelling after their treatment, but it’s only temporary and should go away quickly. Some results are seen immediately, whereas long term improvement is seen over several months.
