As the leaves change color this fall, take the time to make a couple of adjustments to your beauty regimen. Some of the summer beauty rules you followed can actually harm your skin during the fall and winter seasons. Start fall right with the following tips from the skin care specialists at Burt & Will Plastic Surgery and Laser Centre.
Tip #1: Swap Your Summer Moisturizer
A lightweight formula is ideal for warm, humid months because it prevents your skin from becoming too oily. But during the fall season, your skin may have the opposite problem; the colder weather can cause your skin to become dull, dry or flaky. It’s wise to change your lightweight moisturizer for a heavier cream serum or an oil-based moisturizer to give your skin a much-needed extra boost for moisture. If you prefer, you can continue to use your summertime moisturizer, so long you apply it more often than you did during summer.
Tip #2: Don’t Put Away the Sunscreen
The sun’s harmful UV rays can reach your skin, even in cloudy or overcast weather. This essentially means you are at risk for sunburns, skin redness and even premature wrinkles and fine lines year round. Opt for broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. If you plan on spending a long time outdoors, remember to reapply your sunscreen every couple of hours.
Tip #3: Drink Plenty of Water
Drinking water has many benefits, including keeping your skin fresh and bright. Water helps your skin release toxins and prevent it from looking dull or flaky. Remember to drink about six to eight glasses a day to keep your skin vibrant and luminous.
Tip #4: Exfoliate Once a Week
If you spent a lot of time outdoors under the summer sun, now is the time to repair your skin. Overexposure to the sun can lead to fine lines, crow’s feet, wrinkles and other manifestations of skin damage. Exfoliating removes dead cells and reinvigorates the skin. At Burt & Will Plastic Surgery, we offer chemical peels that exfoliate and revitalize the skin. We also offer several facial treatments that cleanse and purify the skin for a fresh and younger-looking facial appearance.
Tip #5: Try a Laser Treatment
Laser skin resurfacing treatments use pulsating beams to vaporize old, damaged skin cells and make way for a healthy layer of fresh skin. Among our laser treatment options, we offer the popular Limelight IPL Photofacial, which focuses on repairing discoloration and uneven skin tone. The procedure can also reduce the appearance of age spots, red spots, veins and sun spots. The Laser Genesis Skin Therapy is a noninvasive treatment that uses concentrated laser light to gently head the deep layers of the skin, stimulating collagen production. This treatment can improve the appearance of acne, scarring, rosacea, and oily, aging skin.
