Cosmetic Surgery Flourishing Around the Globe

The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) recently released some very exciting statistics on cosmetic procedures worldwide. Their findings were based on a survey of more than 1,500 plastic surgeons from all over the globe. ISAPS focused on plastic surgeons that are board certified, or the national equivalent of being board certified.

Let’s explore some of ISAPS’ latest findings:

Worldwide Trends

More than 23 million surgical and non-surgical procedures were performed last year, and according to ISAPS, that number is on the rise. The countries that performed the most procedures were the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Germany and Spain.

The number of surgical procedures performed (11,599,336) was just shy of the number of non-surgical procedures performed (11,874,937).

The Leader of the Pack

According to ISAPS, the United States was the global leader in cosmetic treatment. With nearly 4 million cosmetic surgical and non-surgical procedures performed in 2013, the U.S. accounted for 17 percent of cosmetic treatment worldwide.

Although the United States ranked No. 1 in terms of both surgical and non-surgical procedures, Brazil had the highest number of surgical procedures performed. This was the first year that Brazil had claimed the top spot for surgical procedures.
