How do chemical peels work?

There are basically three major types of chemical peel solutions:

Chemical peels work by detaching the top layer of damaged skin so it can peel freely away, and expose fresh new skin underneath. It forces the skin cells to turnover, causing old discolored and damaged skin to peel. Flaking and a light pink hue will go practically unnoticed. For improving uneven pigmentation, fine wrinkles, and damage caused by the sun, a superficial peel is ideal. Superficial peels, utilizing TCA may be used anywhere on the body and face.

For acne and oily skin, a special peel may be required. Special peels contain salicylic acid which is soluble in your skins oil, allowing it to penetrate your pores. Special peels are great for unclogging the pores and improving any recurring acne.

All peels can be tailored to your unique skin type and condition. This is where the expertise of our experienced, licensed aestheticians and laser technicians is important as they are meticulous in the selection and application to your customized chemical peel.

“Started Laser Genesis and the results are FABULOUS! Kelly is doing my treatment and she is not only highly professional, but fun to spend time with. This is my new favorite place!”- Barbara B.

What will a chemical peel feel like?

We will thoroughly cleanse your skin of any oils. We will then apply the chemical solution with a brush or pad. A slight sting may be felt as the solution is applied. After removal, your skin will be treated with a moisturizer and you will be advised to wear sunscreen. Your skin may feel tight and have a rosy appearance initially.

Over the next few days, damaged skin will shed as the new skin grows underneath, bringing a vibrant youthful glow while reducing or eliminating any blemishes or spots. While the face is the most common area treated, the hands may also benefit from the procedure.

Chemical peels can treat the following conditions:

What to expect

There are different grades of chemical peels: light, medium, and deep. Light peels require negligible down time because only the outermost layers are affected. Then progressively, subsequent levels seep deeper into the skin epidermis.

Light Peel

The appropriate chemical solution is applied after a thorough cleansing of the treatment area. Soon after, the solution is removed and neutralized so no additional chemical effect occurs. Discomfort is slight, and daily activities may resume immediately.

Medium Peel

After a thorough cleansing, a unique combination of Phenol and Croton Oil will be applied. The solution will remain for several minutes before it is removed and neutralized. It is common for the treated areas to become whitish gray. For several days following treatment, the skin will turn red or brown as the old skin flakes away.

Deep Peel

A local anesthesia will be administered to aid your comfort during the process. The areas will then be cleansed, and the Phenol and Croton Oil solution will be applied. After several minutes, the solution will be removed and neutralized. Ointment will be applied to moisturize the area. The deep peel may require a couple of weeks to recover, but offers the most dramatic positive outcome.
